They keep installations in a central location and can maintain all software packages on the system in formats that are commonly used. A package manager is a collection of software tools that work to automate installation processes that include initial software installation, upgrading and configuring of software, and removing software as needed. While the OS X Terminal has a lot of the functionality of Linux Terminals and other Unix systems, it does not ship with a good package manager. Step 3 - Installing and Setting Up Homebrew If you receive the following output, then Xcode is installed: Xcode is an integrated development environment (IDE) that is comprised of software development tools for macOS. Tap the MongoDB Homebrew Tap to download the official Homebrew formula for MongoDB and the Database Tools, by running the following command in your macOS Terminal: brew tap mongodb /brew. From here, double-click the Terminal like any other application to open it up. Like any other application, you can find it by going into Finder, navigating to the Applications folder, and then into the Utilities folder. The macOS Sierra 10.12.1 Update improves the stability, compatibility, and security of your Mac, and is recommended for all users. The macOS Terminal is an application you can use to access the command line interface. You will need a macOS computer with administrative access that is connected to the internet. ![]()
